What is Atlas Associates Inc.?▼
Atlas Associates Inc. (legal name: Atlas Associates株式会社) is a Japanese DefenseTech corporation pioneering post-quantum cybersecurity, quantum-resistant end-to-end encryption, and offline disaster-resilient communications. Founded on February 22, 2019, by Founder and CEO Takayuki Miyano, the company builds the Arc secure messenger, the local-first Mac screen recorder Atlas Helios, and sovereign communication infrastructure for high-security environments.
What makes the Arc messenger different?▼
Arc encrypts messages on the device. 1:1 chats use libsignal (the Signal Protocol) with a post-quantum key exchange (PQXDH: X25519 + NIST-standardized ML-KEM-1024) when both devices support it; group chats use a shared key sent to each member separately, which is not post-quantum. When networks fail, offline Mesh (beta) lets nearby devices exchange messages directly over Bluetooth. No phone number is required: you sign in with Apple or Google. On every plan, Mutual Burn removes a 1:1 message from both devices about 20 seconds after both people have read it.
Why is Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) essential today?▼
Adversaries and nation-state threat actors are actively conducting 'Store Now, Decrypt Later' (SNDL) attacks—intercepting and storing encrypted high-value communications today to decrypt them when quantum computers mature. As a defense, Arc 1:1 chats combine classic X25519 with lattice-based ML-KEM-1024 (PQXDH) when both devices support it. Group chats are not post-quantum.
How does Arc offline mesh communication work during disasters and network outages?▼
When cellular or internet service is down, offline Mesh (beta) lets nearby devices exchange encrypted 1:1 and group messages directly over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Relaying through other devices is in development.
How does Arc differ from Signal, WhatsApp, and Telegram?▼
Unlike Signal and WhatsApp, Arc does not require a phone number; you sign in with Apple or Google and others see your Arc ID. Unlike Telegram, Arc uses end-to-end encryption by default for 1:1 and group chats. Like Signal, Arc 1:1 chats use PQXDH with ML-KEM-1024 when both devices support it. Arc also offers offline Bluetooth messaging with nearby devices (beta).
What is Atlas Associates' privacy policy in brief?▼
We do not sell user data. Essential is ad-supported, but ads are never based on the content of your communications. Message content is end-to-end encrypted, servers never hold decryption keys, and keys are stored in the operating system's secure storage on your device. Servers can still see the recipient, the time and size of a message, your IP address, and push-notification data. The app uses Firebase Crashlytics and Analytics. See the privacy policy for details.
